When it comes to expressing your creativity freely, opting for canvas painting seems to be a viable option. Art in its many forms has a great ability which can be easily underestimated. It can get under your skin without you even noticing it, becoming an essential part of our beings and daily life. Painting in general has been proven to exude calming effects, thus providing a wonderful method of relieving daily stress and disconnecting from the outside world.

Azzedine Alaia was a Tunisian born couturier and shoe designer, particularly successful beginning in the 1980s. He began working as a dressmaker’s assistant and soon started dressing private clients and in 1957 he moved to Paris to work in Fashion Design. In Paris he started to work at Christian Dior but had to leave as the war broke out, soon moved to work for Guy Laroche for two seasons, then for Thierry Mugler until he opened his first atelier in his little Rue De Bellechasse apartment in the late 1970s.

He produced his first ready-to-wear collection in 1980s and moved to larger premises on Rue Du Parc royal in the Marais district. He was voted the best designer of the year and best collection of the year at the Oscars De La mode by the french ministry of culture in 1984. His career skyrocketed when two of the most powerful fashion editors of the time, Melka Traton of Depeche Mode and Nichole Crassat of french Elle, supported him in their editorials.

In 1980s an event was lead to his designs being sold in New York City and Beverly Hills. In 1988 he opened his own boutiques in these two cities and in Paris. His seductive, clinging clothes were a massive success and he was named by the media “THE KING OF CLING”. Devotees included both fashion inclined celebrities and fashionistas : Grace Jones, Tina Turner, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Shakira, Naomi Campbell and Carla Sozzani.

In 1996 he participated at the Biennale Della Moda in Florence, where along with paintings by longtime friend Julian Schnabel, he exhibited an outstanding dress created for the event. He signed a partnership with Prada in 2000 and in July 2007 he successfully bought back his house and brand name from the Prada group.

Azzedine alaia  who passed away early Saturday morning was known for an understanding of the female form, creating collection at his own pace through his craftsmanship and talent and would quote : “it’s ready when it’s ready”. His mastering of techniques made him to the top. He was dedicated to women – all types of women, not just those with the typical model’s silhouette. He loved spending time with real women, learning about their likes and dislikes and this is how he came to understand about women. His final show was held in July this year, and posed cheerfully with Karlie Kloss and Naomi Capmbell.
